The Council’s first project as part of a new initiative related to the Faith in Action program got off to a great start. Each month the Council will be holding a charity drive to help a different organization. Knights will be encouraged to bring items of need to our council meetings each month.
The first project helped the Matchan Nutrition Center, which is operated by the St. Vincent de Paul Society and serves the homeless in the Pontiac area. They have been operating at the same location for over 33 years. The Center provides lunch to approximately 150 area homeless people twice a week from the former St. Damien Church cafeteria. The chronically homeless clients of the Matchan Center always need new, warm socks. Council members were asked to purchase men’s white athletic crew or boot length socks and bring them to the March 3 Council meeting.
Council members did an outstanding job on this project, collecting 317 pairs of socks at the meeting. Special recognition goes to Deputy Grand Knight Alex Franz and Membership Director George Curran, who each brought in 48 pairs of socks. Outstanding work, guys!
